Dr. Lo, chairman of Taiwan International Iridology Association, after studying the iris found that when outside the iris appears a white circle of cholesterol, the chances of suffering from cardiovascular diseases are higher, and are more than 10 times of a normal person, especially with the recent changes in temperature, it’s likely for cardiovascular diseases to occur, therefore he advises people to receive check-ups in order to prevent disease and keep healthy.
Having studied iridology for over 6 years and having examined thousands of patients, Dr. Lo has discovered that when on the outside of a person’s iris, which is the black part of the eyeball, forms cholesterol, the likeliness of them getting cardiovascular diseases in the next 10 years is more than 90%, making it over 10 times more likely than one without cholesterol. When the cholesterol turns from a milky white color to a grayish white color, or even turns to a light blue, then the more serious the cardiovascular sclerosis is. Also, if the more spread out the cholesterol is, the more serious the situation. This piece of research was highly regarded by the International Iridology Associationon their 13th international conference held in the US.
Dr. Lo points out that vascular obstruction is expressed by the connection of the central nervous system to the iris, hyperlipemia and or vascular obstruction patients usually have a white ring develop on the outer rim of their iris, which is called a cholesterol ring, also called an aging arch or a sodium ring.
In the past three years, Dr. Lo has observed 100 of our clinic’s patients whom have developed a cholesterol ring outside their iris, and he has done blood tests to check the cholesterol and the triglyceride numbers in their blood, and then runs tests by using a cardiac function testing device, as a result he found that the cholesterol ring’s color and width both had a connection to the risk of vascular obstruction. Because the iris can expose health problems, then you can start solving the problems earlier. Dr. Lo advises to use a magnifying glass or a close photo shot to observe one’s iris, and if you find that you have a cholesterol ring then you should proceed to a hospital for further examination. 5 years ago, 75-year-old Mr. Hong went to a clinic for some looking for medicine because he had been coughing and thought he simply had a cold. But after 2 months of not getting better, he received notice from the health department to have an examination, and to his surprise found there was a spot on his lung. Doctors confirmed that he had stage 3 lung adenocarcinoma, and because the tumor was near the surface of the lung, the cancer had already spread to the pleura, leaving little chance of being cured recovery.
Taiwan University principle, Yang Pan Chi, expresses that lung adenocarcinoma has the second highest occurrence rate in all Taiwan, and the highest death rate in Taiwan, and its world occurrence rate keeps escalating. Sometimes cancer cells grow in areas that are not easy to deal with, for example they might invade the pleura. Now there is new photo dynamic therapy that can overcome this problem and increase the patients’ chance of survival.
Dr. Li Zhang Ming, director of Taiwan University Hospital’s department of thoracic surgery, explains that surgery can remove the tumors but can’t completely remove the cancer cells in between the pleura, therefore should try receiving photo dynamic therapy.
This treatment works by injecting photo sensitizer before surgery, which can’t be absorbed by regular cells but remains only in cancer cells, and then killing the cancer cells by projecting a light of a set wavelength.
5 years ago, the US used this method was used in US to fight the spreading of lung cancer to the pleura. Taiwan University followed closely behind and is the only hospital in Taiwan with this treatment, and its successes were published in July on the international column Public Science Library journal (PLOS ONE).
Taiwan University Hospital’s main oncologist, Dr. Chen Ruo Bai, says that 40 percent of in bed patients when found to have lung adenocarcinoma were already stage 4, and 30 to 40 percent of these patients’ cancer had already spread to the pleura. The most common treatments are based on chemo or targeted methods, but the result is not ideal, and it’s likely to have a relapse. Usually the survival time afterwards is about one year, and the survival rate for 5 years is less than 10%.
Dr. Chen explains that photo dynamic therapy works especially well when the cancer has spread to the pleura. In the 10 years that our clinic has had this treatment we have treated 20 cases. Over 70% of those patients lived 3 years or longer, and more than half lived 5 years or longer. The only thing is that photo dynamic therapy is not yet covered by insurance, so the cost is 360,000 NTD.

Melanoma spreads. Immunotherapy gives him hope

67-year-old Mr. Huang had a black spot on his left toe for many years, at first, he didn’t really take mind of it, but five years ago it showed rapid growth, and it was diagnosed to be melanoma. After many times of receiving treatment but not seeing improvement, he decided to give up and was reluctant to even step out his front door.
This year he took a doctor’s advice and accepted to try out immunotherapy, using medicines to revive his immune system and to attack the tumors. After 10 months of treatment, Mr. Huang’s tumors were practically gone, and he had the physical energy to go mountain climbing with his friends, this made him extremely happy.
Dr. Zhang Wen Zhen, director of the department of tumor immunology of the Chang Gung Hospital in Taoyuan, explains that melanoma is the worst type of skin cancer. Mr. Huang was diagnosed rather late, and his tumors were not removed properly. It was after receiving chemotherapy without success that the tumors spread to the lymphatic gland, liver and the bones. Once the cancer spread, treating it was even harder.
Dr. Zhang Wen Zhen says that so far immunotherapy is the treatment with the biggest chance of defeating cancer,Taiwan medicine takers have already approved 3 new immunotherapeutic medicines, which are CTLA-4, PD-1 and PD-L1,indication is the second melanoma and non-small cell lung cancer, the survival rates have increased to above 20% and 50%, giving terminal cancer patients an opportunity for being cured.
Mr. Huang says that chemo made him feel like dying rather than living, once a doctor even told him that there was no hope for him in treatment, which made him give up trying to find a cure. But cancer left him with anemia, and every time he walked, he was short of breath. This plus the persuasion of Zhang Wen Zhen and his own wife made him finally agree to trying out immunotherapy.
To his surprise, immunotherapy kept him alive and while receiving treatment the only side effect were some white spots on his skin, there were no other serious side effects! [How great it is to be alive!]
Dr. Yang Zheng Da, vice director of the Chang Gung Hospital in Taoyuan, , explains that pharmacists have said that immunotherapy belongs to the second line of treatment; in other words, if a cancer patient wants to receive immunotherapy it can only be after chemotherapy has failed them. However, the US has already approved immunotherapy to be used as the first line of treatment for lung cancer, renal cell carcinoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, Gonorrhea head and neck cancer and Urinary tract cancer. So, if a patient wants to receive immunotherapy, they just need to get approval from a doctor and then can receive it through project-assisted treatment.
One thing to be aware of is that immunotherapy isn’t covered by insurance,to receive treatment 2-3 times a week for 3-6 months means that the patient needs to pay 200,000 to 300,000 NTD. [Receiving immunotherapy, my world came back to life!]
67-year-old Mr. Huang had a black spot on his left toe for many years, at first, he didn’t really take mind of it, but five years ago it showed rapid growth, and it was diagnosed to be melanoma. After many times of receiving treatment but not seeing improvement, he decided to give up and was reluctant to even step out his front door.
This year he took a doctor’s advice and accepted to try out immunotherapy, using medicines to revive his immune system and to attack the tumors. After 10 months of treatment, Mr. Huang’s tumors were practically gone, and he had the physical energy to go mountain climbing with his friends, this made him extremely happy.
Dr. Zhang Wen Zhen, director of the department of tumor immunology of the Chang Gung Hospital in Taoyuan, explains that melanoma is the worst type of skin cancer. Mr. Huang was diagnosed rather late, and his tumors were not removed properly. It was after receiving chemotherapy without success that the tumors spread to the lymphatic gland, liver and the bones. Once the cancer spread, treating it was even harder.
Dr. Zhang Wen Zhen says that so far immunotherapy is the treatment with the biggest chance of defeating cancer,Taiwan medicine takers have already approved 3 new immunotherapeutic medicines, which are CTLA-4, PD-1 and PD-L1,indication is the second melanoma and non-small cell lung cancer, the survival rates have increased to above 20% and 50%, giving terminal cancer patients an opportunity for being cured.
Mr. Huang says that chemo made him feel like dying rather than living, once a doctor even told him that there was no hope for him in treatment, which made him give up trying to find a cure. But cancer left him with anemia, and every time he walked, he was short of breath. This plus the persuasion of Zhang Wen Zhen and his own wife made him finally agree to trying out immunotherapy.
To his surprise, immunotherapy kept him alive and while receiving treatment the only side effect were some white spots on his skin, there were no other serious side effects! [How great it is to be alive!]
Dr. Yang Zheng Da, vice director of the Chang Gung Hospital in Taoyuan, , explains that pharmacists have said that immunotherapy belongs to the second line of treatment; in other words, if a cancer patient wants to receive immunotherapy it can only be after chemotherapy has failed them. However, the US has already approved immunotherapy to be used as the first line of treatment for lung cancer, renal cell carcinoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, Gonorrhea head and neck cancer and Urinary tract cancer. So, if a patient wants to receive immunotherapy, they just need to get approval from a doctor and then can receive it through project-assisted treatment.
One thing to be aware of is that immunotherapy isn’t covered by insurance,to receive treatment 2-3 times a week for 3-6 months means that the patient needs to pay 200,000 to 300,000 NTD.
